My Global Classroom: Essential Travel Tips from a Chinese Student’s Adventures Abroad

As a Chinese student with extensive travel experience, including visits to Cuba, Japan, Russia, the UK, Germany, and the US, I’ve learned valuable lessons from my journeys. I’d like to share some essential tips for enjoyable and hassle-free travel.

Firstly, preparation is key. While many view travel as a form of relaxation and suggest not over-planning, I believe in a proactive approach. Waking up late and missing out on beautiful sights can be disappointing. Planning ahead, such as deciding on places to visit and meals to try, is crucial. For instance, when I traveled to Cuba, I encountered difficulties with payment methods due to political reasons, which could have been avoided with better preparation. This experience highlighted the importance of meticulous planning, including logistical details like ticket purchases.

Secondly, safety should always be a priority. While traveling, it’s not only the scenic views you should enjoy but also be cautious of potential risks. Theft can be a concern, particularly in areas with economic challenges. Protecting your belongings, especially your wallet and passport, is vital. Based on personal experiences of losing my phone in Miami and Japan, I recommend keeping your phone secure and out of sight to avoid attracting attention.

Lastly, maintain your health by getting enough rest and eating wisely. Stick to familiar foods to avoid health issues and exercise caution with everything new. If possible, converse with locals who can offer firsthand advice on the best eateries and must-see attractions.

By focusing on these aspects, you can ensure that your travels are both enjoyable and fulfilling.
